Skirmish!

Hey folks,

It’s incredible that another week has already gone by.  Before coming to DigiPen, I was told that each subsequent semester for the first two years would be harder than the last.  All I can say is that I definitely believe it!

And while all of my classes have become more demanding, the most nerve-wracking one is definitely our GAM150 class:  We’re programming our games in C from scratch this semester (well, almost, as I’ll explain in a moment).

Last semester we used a game engine called Zero to build our game.  This is a very common practice, and many games from small developers are made using independent game engines that do a great deal of the underlying ‘heavy lifting’ for you...

Starting Off In A Flurry!

Hey folks,

It’s been a while since my last post, and I apologize about that, but everything has been so busy recently that I finally just had to sit down and take some time to write!

First off, you didn’t get caught in the polar vortex while it was swirling about, did you?  I had some delays on my flight back from Florida, but nothing too severe.  More than a few students, however, were caught on the East Coast and missed the first week of school.  For one of my busiest Christmases in a very long time, it seemed appropriate that it chose now to appear, so I’m glad I didn’t get caught more severely in it.

On the subject of Christmas, since I haven’t actually posted since then, I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday.  Mine was packed, but still fun...

A Great Year!

Well folks, its that time again.  Christmas is fast approaching and everyone is in a crunch to get everything done before the end of the season.  The same is true for me, and although I’m getting close, there’s enough left on my ‘to do’ list to keep me busy the whole holiday!

But even with that list, I can still take a moment to enjoy the conclusion of the semester and many accomplishments this year – and what a year it’s been!

I left friends and my family back home in Florida to journey across the country out to a brand new adventure in Seattle.  I zigzagged across the U.S., going up both coasts and from one corner to the other...

Quick Book Update

Hi folks,

I got some good news about the cover today, but we won’t be releasing until next week.  It might be available in the store this weekend, but plan to pick it up early next week.  Thanks for all your support, and I’ll let you know of the official day/time as soon as I can!

Book Delay

Hi folks,

A quick word on the release tomorrow – unfortunately, it’s being pushed back by at least 24 hours while a final couple cover issues get worked out.  I’m not happy about it, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.  I’ll post again tomorrow, hopefully with good news about the release!

The Week Ahead

Next week is a big one folks!

Not only will I have the conclusion to all of my exams from this semester of school, but The Phoenix Fallacy Book 2 will also be releasing on Thursday.  There’s a lot going on around here, but so far things have been going well.  My cover artist, Roman Mindek – who created the first cover – is making a final push to get the art together, and then I’ll be shipping the work over to Thea Kennedy to get the cover lettering and polish together.  It’s a tight schedule, but I think I’m just going to squeak by!  I’ll post the cover here as soon as possible, and post the map soon after.

As far as school goes, I’ve got finals this week, as well as the test run for our team’s robotic car...

The Phoenix Fallacy: Book 2!

Hey folks,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Mine was a mixture of mad-scramble and occasionally being a bit more lazy than I should have.  As some of you know, I didn’t end up travelling home this year, which marks it as the first time I haven’t spent the holiday with my family.

Fortunately for me, I’ve met plenty of wonderful people up here in Seattle, and a few of them were kind enough to invite me over to join them!  I ended up eating Thanksgiving dinner with the family of one of my project teammates.  It was a great meal, with delicious homemade fixings and a truly memorable apple pie at the end to finish it off!  All of it was made from scratch, which makes the feat of cooking it all even more impressive.  Many thanks to the Street family for the wonderful meal.

The Final Stretch(es)

Hey folks,

Things are coming down to the wire now, both for my book and my school projects.  On the book front, I’ve seen several covers so far, and although the final isn’t quite ready yet, I should have a version in the next week or so.  While I’ve been waiting for that, and when I haven’t been directly editing, I’ve been adding some extra content to Book II.  This includes a brand new appendix with some extra lore for those who really love to dive in, and some resources for those who want to be able to flip to the back for a quick refresher at any moment.  Early signs suggest it really helps out and adds to the quality of the read, so I’m pretty excited about showing all of that soon.

On the school front, we had our Alpha presentations this week, and overall, it went pretty well...

Halloween!

Hey folks,

The past few days have been really busy.  I’ve been working on my GAM100 project Robo Knight Rusty all week and had a major feature presentation on Friday.  I’ll fill in the details on that next time, but for now I wanted to say a belated Happy Halloween to everyone!

Next week should be a little less rushed, so I’ll see you then!
